Anne's philosophy of ministry

When Jesus stopped to rest at Jacob’s well (John 4:1-42) the conversation he had with the Samaritan woman he met there was truly remarkable. It ranged from the profoundly personal to the deep things of God.

"I love this passage for its portrayal of the interwoveness of the things of the heart and the head – of spirit and truth. Both dimensions are vital and deeply interdependent: the response of the human spirit to God must always be enriched and guided by the truth of God; yet that truth only wells up as living water when we take it to heart and it floods through our spirits – bringing life to and through us."

Mentoring

Anne seeks to mentor through conversations which, by God’s grace and with the help of his Spirit, open up just such spaces in which people encounter God and grow in him...

About Anne

BA (Hons Psych); MTh; Grad Cert Prof Supervision; PhD (Practical Theology). Member, Australasian Assn of Supervision; Recognised Mentor, Chaplaincy Australia.

Anne was born in the UK but arrived in Australia with family in time to finish her schooling in Brisbane. Anne came to faith at an SU high school camp and has enjoyed fellowship at various Baptist churches ever since whilst continuing to richly appreciate her Anglican family background. She studied psychology at UQ and practised as a counselling psychologist for 15 years, before becoming involved in supporting theological college students in their spiritual and personal formation. Anne then undertook her own theological studies in an ecumenical context which heightened her interest in all things Baptist and led to her PhD studies at UQ in Practical Theology (Baptist Ecclesiology). She lectures in Guided Spiritual Formation and Baptist Studies at Morling Theological College.

Throughout this time, Anne has continued to greatly value her work one to one with Christian leaders as a mentor and, more recently, Professional Pastoral Supervisor. Anne and husband Peter fellowship with Gateway Baptist Church and have two married sons and four grandchildren. Anne has a progressive form of muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair.

Anne's background in counselling psychology, practical theology, and formation work with those preparing for Christian ministry, has uniquely equipped her to encourage God’s people to grow in spirit and in truth.
